Perhaps you can't put much stock in my opinion because I am an unrepentant History buff and a long-time fan of Christopher Hibbert, but if you want a quick summer read about a fascinating man of a now almost mythological period in North American history, give this book a try. As I read it, I kept thinking to myself, "Reads like a novel", not only because Wolfe was one of those larger-than-life characters whose short time on earth makes the rest of us look like hapless slackers, but also because a good novel is nothing but an interesting story told well, and no one does it better than the prolific Mr. Hibbert. Sheer enjoyment.

The book itself is well written, and has more information than I expected. Yet the author only gave a bibliography of sources at the end - which is useless. The eternal debate about whether a book should have numbered citations in each chapter comes down to this fact: without endnotes you can't prove that anything in the book is true. Thus, although Hibbert was well regarded in his time, the book on Wolfe at Quebec can only be used as light reading rather than serious history.

Je weiter ich las, desto leichter fiel es mir, bis ich komplett verzaubert war.Das Buch ist gut durchdacht. Wieder habe ich nicht mit dem Mörder gerechnet. Auch war die Spannung da, die einen antreibt weiter zu lesen.Thomas ist in diesem Buch emotionaler. Er zeigt mehr von seinem wahren Ich und sorgt sich um Audrey Rose. Trotzdem bleibt er seinem Charakter treu und wird kein liebestoller Trottel.Audrey Rose hat immer wieder mit Erinnerungen an Jack the Ripper zu kämpfen. Sehr passend in ihrer Situation und gut durchdacht. So ist sie nicht kalt, sondern menschlich. Trotz ihrer Angst überwindet sie diese immer wieder und zeigt, was für eine Kämpferin sie ist.Auch der 2. Teil war einfach großartig und ich bin schon gespannt auf Teil 3. Hoffentlich wird Thomas' und Audreys Geschichte nicht ausgewalzt...

Haunting Prince Dracula ist der zweite Teil der Stalking Jack the Ripper Reihe. Audrey Rose und Thomas verschlägt es diesmal nach Rumänien, der Ursprungsort der Dracula Legende. Ich hatte beim Lesen große Schwierigkeiten in die Story zu kommen und ich war auch genervt von Audrey Rose. Zum Ende hin wurde die Story auch vorhersehbar, da der Plot Ablauf, wann Dinge geschehen, gleich mit dem ersten Teil ist.

I really liked "Stalking Jack the Ripper" when I read it a while back, and so of course I was super excited to finally get my hands on the sequel "Hunting Prince Dracula" now. And what can I say? It did not disappoint!Fresh of the horrible revelations about the identity of Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose and Thomas have gone to Romania to attend classes at a school for forensic medicine situated in a castle that was the former home of Vlad Tepes aka Vlad Dracul. On the train ride to Bucharest a man is found impaled, adding to the rumors that Vlad Tepes has risen from the dead and Strigoi are wandering the woods around Bran Castle. Soon after their arrival, a student dies under mysterious circumstances, and during the autopsy it is revealed that all the blood is missing from his body. But while some people start buying into superstitions, Audrey Rose and Thomas are convinced that the killer is very human. Their investigations soon become a race against time as more bodies start piling up, and a secret about his family could possibly put Thomas in danger too ...While this book started off a *little* slow it really took off after a while and turned into a fun and suspenseful rollercoaster ride. Given the setting it's not surprising that this story is at times quite creepy, and the author really piled on the "Oh my GOD!!!!" moments in the second half of the book. Seriously, everytime I thought "it can't get worse for them" I was immediately proven wrong! By the time I got to the last 100 pages I was just racing through cause I had to know how it would end. And while I did have my suspicions as to who the killer could be (suspicions that changed numerous times while reading) I can honestly say that I did not see this ending or the identity of the killer coming. Speaking of the ending --- the final part after the big reveal held a few very swoonworthy moments, and also nicely set up the next book in the series (no cliffhanger though).There were a few moments throughout the book where I raised an eyebrow or two at things either Audrey Rose or Thomas said or did, or at choices they made. But the rest of the book was so good that I can easily forgive that. Ultimately, "Hunting Prince Dracula" was really fun to read and left me with a huge smile on my face. What more can you ask for?

Eigentlich sollte ich mit einem Aufruf an alle deutschen Verlage beginnen: sichert euch diese Buchreihe! Sie muss einfach ins Deutsche übersetzt werden!Kerri Maniscalco hat mich mit „Stalking Jack the Ripper“ bereits begeistert, aber nach „Hunting Prince Dracula“ liege ich ihr zu Füßen. Wenn ihr englische Bücher lest, müsst ihr euch einfach an diese Reihe ranmachen. Sie ist einfach zu gut, um sie sich entgehen zu lassen.Ich liebe den Stil der Autorin. Ihre Reihe ist so wunderbar gotisch viktorianisch angehaucht, dass ich einfach nur in den Büchern versinke. Sie vermischt reale Fakten mit Fantastischen und zaubert daraus eine absolut fesselnde Geschichte. Und sie hat zwei Charaktere, denen ich absolut verfallen bin: Audrey Rose Wadsworth und Thomas Cresswell. Dazu ist die Geschichte so perfekt durchdacht, durchweg spannend und undurchschaubar. Mit unfassbar vielen überraschenden Wendungen. Ich liebe sie einfach!Nachdem Thomas und Audrey den Jack the Ripper Fall gelöst haben und beinahe daran zugrunde gegangen sind, starten sie ihr neues Abenteuer in Rumänien. Nirgends anders als im ehemaligen Schloss des berühmt berüchtigten Graf Draculas, denn hier haben sie die einmalige Chance, an einer forensischen Akademie aufgenommen zu werden. Dummerwiese häufen sich die Morde, wenn Audrey und Thomas in der Nähe sind. Anscheinend kopiert jemand Draculas Mordmethoden und pfählt seine Opfer oder lässt sie blutleer zurück. Oder sind die Mythen doch wahr und Dracula ist wieder auferstanden?Audrey und Thomas lassen es sich in ihrer gewieften, geistreichen und witzigen Art natürlich nicht nehmen, die Morde genauer zu untersuchen und geraten wieder einmal mitten ins Geschehen. Bis zum Ende konnte ich übrigens nicht sagen, wer hier denn jetzt wie verwickelt ist. Alles war so unheimlich spannend. Geheime Organisationen, Mythen, Legenden und dann wäre da noch ein geheimes Buch und alte Tunnel unter dem berüchtigten Schloss.Zeitgemäß befinden wir uns im Jahre 1888 und ich liebe es einfach, wie die Autorin diesen Stil und die damaligen Gepflogenheiten in ihr Buch eingebaut hat. Natürlich ist es zu dieser Zeit verpönt, dass Audrey Rose sich überhaupt für Forensik interessiert und sich ohne eine Anstandsdame inmitten von Männern aufhält, aber Audrey war schon immer anders und pocht darauf, sie selbst sein zu dürfen in dieser männerdominierten Welt. Ihr Verstand und ihre Fähigkeiten sind absolut beeindruckend und es ist so herrlich, ihr dabei zuzusehen, wie sie sich Tag für Tag neu behaupten muss, auch vor Thomas. Der ist mit seiner flapsigen Art zwar etwas weltoffener. Alte Traditionen schleichen sich bei ihm jedoch immer wieder ein, weshalb es des Öfteren zu Reibereien zwischen den beiden kommt. Ich liebe beide so sehr und bin sicher, ihr werdet ihnen auch zu Füßen liegen. Ich shippe die beiden so hart :)Ich freue mich jetzt schon auf weitere Abenteuer mit den beiden, denn im nächsten Band geht es auf nach Amerika.Mein Fazit:Atmosphärisch – gotisch – absolut fesselnd!Kerri Maniscalco hat mit „Hunting Prince Dracula“ ein weiteres fesselndes Abenteuer meiner Lieblingscharaktere Audrey Rose Wadsworth und Thomas Cresswell geschaffen. Auf den Spuren von Graf Dracula gilt es eine neue Mordserie zu lösen, geheime Organisationen zu entlarven, Mythen und Legenden am eigenen Leib zu erleben und keinesfalls zu sterben. Die beiden haben ein Talent, sich immer in gefährliche Situationen zu begeben. Viktorianisch angehaucht, düster und auch blutig geht es auf eine spannende Verbrecherjagd im späten 19. Jahrhundert und ich liebe es einfach. Ich kann euch diese Reihe nur ans Herz legen!
